Reggina 0-2 Vicenza
By: Dan | September 16th, 2009
Goals: Sgrigna 43′, Bjelanovic 71′
Reggina: Cassano, Buscè, Capelli (Cascione 33′), Valdez, Rizzato, Pagano (A. Viola 57′), Volpi, Carmona, Barillà , Cacia, Brienza (Bonazzoli 11′)
Vicenza: Fortin, Minieri, Zanchi, Giosa (Urbano 55′), Brivio, Braiati (Signori 69′), Rigoni, Botta, Fabiano, Sgrigna (Gavazzi 83′), Bjelanovic
How disappointing… man did we lay an egg in this one. I’m not sure what that means, but I think it’s bad which is why I’m saying it. Another match that we were expected to take, at home, and we threw it away. 3 points that will prove to be critical when spring rolls around. We’re clearly not clicking as a team right now and we need to figure this shit out. This loss was embarrassing for the team and for the fans that went to watch on a Tuesday afternoon.
Why was this the first match in a few weeks that I actually got to watch? Disgraceful. I don’t recall even threatening to score aside from a Cacia header early on that challenged the goalkeeper. Vicenza was causing all sorts of problems for us. And the loss of Brienza early on was the worst thing that could have happened. It’s clear that without Brienza there is no creativity in the attack.
We fell 1-0 when Alessandro Sgrigna, a player we were trying to sign just a few weeks ago, collected a long pass with a great first touch to easily score a goal in a 1 on 1 situation. As we flooded forward to equalize we were caught on the counter attack and Vicenza threw the knockout punch to make it 2-0… even when it was 1-0 it was obvious there was little to no hope for this team to come back.
Pagano was subbed out early again, was this his last chance? Brienza is hurt…. let’s hope he makes a quick recovery. Capelli was also subbed out real early, but he was probably just as bad as everyone else. It’s hard to write anything when I’m so DISGUSTED! I hope we turn this around. It’s only 1 loss but such an ugly one. There are already calls from the tifosi on the message boards to bring back Walter Mazzarri. I love Mazzarri but let’s not freak out just yet. You can’t polish a turd, as they say. If this team is bad, there’s nothing Novellino can do about it. He knows Serie B, he knows how to achieve promotion. Let’s just wait and see. Two winnable matches coming up (vs Cittadella 9/19, at Frosinone 9/22). At home against Cittadella is really a must win at this point…
Are you all as disgruntled as me at this point? 1 win in 4 matches isn’t comforting at all.

Are you serious????? Suggesting this team is bad???? Nearly every Italian expert has rated Reggina the best team in Serie B, and it definetely is only matched on paper by Torino. In every department we have good serie A standard players, Foti and Martino have invested a lot into promotion this season and if we dont get it, we are in big trouble. Novellino should be sacked if we lose to Cittadella no question! And if you actually read the ‘message boards’ you claim to read its Conte or Baldini in line to take over, and all fans are applauding probably the best group of players essembled in many years by Foti, its the coaches job to get the most, and when you had players like Bonazzoli, Santos, Costa, Lanzaro, Morosini, Missiroli and Viola on thes bench last game who could virtually walk into any serie a team there is no excuse!

Yea touche wolfgang; its to early to make the call to cut novellino. I mena ur rite i watched the game and im as disguusted as you are but wat can we do… the team as Dan pointed out clearly has geled yet and thyat takes more than 4 matches believe me… lets give em another chance and im sure after this loss our team which is regarded as one of the best in serie b should come back from doldrums and win..

I’m not sure what Mr foti is doing but i hope is for the best for Reggina. I’m dissapointed that he gave away 7 even loaned out some our our best players to other teams. For example, he loaned out Christian Stuani a great Striker but never use in last season. He was loaned out to Albacete and on hi second game played scored a hat-trick vs Castellon. AndI hear the Emil Halfersson the “Icelander” was released from reggina & bought by the england team Barnsley & scored a great goal for them too. Check out the websites & Foti get Christian Stuani BACK!!!!!!
One more thing, What ever happen with Nevio Orlandi, is he still with the organization Coaching the youth team, hope he come back and straighten the team out.http://barnsley.theoffside.com/match-reports/derby-2-3-barnsley.html
