Transfer Window Closed…
By: Dan | August 31st, 2009
Couple moves were finalized today as the market came to a close…
In:
Piermario Morosoni (Udinese)
Out:
Carlos Valdez (Lazio, awaiting official)
Joelson (Grosseto)
Morosini (pictured) comes to us from Udinese, but has spent the last two seasons in Serie B with Vicenza. He is a talented 23-year-old midfielder who has several caps for the U-21 Azzurri team. This move greatly helps the depth of our central midfield. After Volpi and Carmona we were thin on talent and experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Morosini start on Sunday against Vicenza, a game in which Carmona is unavailable do to his duties with the Chilean national team.
Valdez has been linked with a move back to the top flight all summer, and I’m shocked he is going to a team as talented as Lazio (although still waiting on an official word as the move may have been made too late). If this is official, I really hope he continues to do well back in Serie A. He will be suiting up for Uruguay this weekend. We should be fine in central defense with Capelli and Lanzaro. We also have Santos, who is on the road to recovery, and young Vincenzo Camilleri should benefit from the departure of Valdez.
We all knew Joelson was on his way out… but we were hoping that Grosseto would send us Carl Valeri in return. I guess they couldn’t come to an agreement, but hopefully Morosini works out for the better. Joelson is a fine Serie B caliber striker, but wasn’t going to find any room in Reggio, especially with the recent acquisition of Daniele Cacia. This also allows us to see more of young Alessio Viola, who will be 4th in the pecking order behind the big 3 forwards.
Overall, we’ve made some great signings but it’s time for this team to gel together and start living up to its potential. Good thing about being in Serie B is that we don’t have to wait forever while international matches are going on. Just a reminder that Reggina-Vicenza is this Sunday at 9:00 AM on the east coast. Talk to you all then!

Valdez will be staying at Reggina. The plan was for Lazio to buy Valdez, then send him to Cagliari in exchange for Michele Canini. But Lazio couldn’t work it out in time and therefore he stays a Reggina player.

unfortunate but id prefer we keep valdez… especially as he knows how to play with lanzaro and can help teach Capelli and Vincenzo Camilleri who ive heard has plenty of potential.
Hopefully reggina can win this w/e v vicenza.
i honestly believe we have one of the strongest teams in serie b and we need to show it from the outsetPosted from
